When building the resort, the Mackeys prioritized nature, making sure to reforest, minimize tree root damage, and avoid using chemical fertilizers. Today, guests can explore the resort’s rich biodiversity trail and even contribute by planting a tree. Morrillo takes great pride in conservation through community collaboration and combining philanthropic principles and practices.
In 2025, they opened Melikki's Primate Rescue Center onsite to care for injured and orphaned primates in addition to working closely with FUNDAT - a local conservation group, they have added another layer of environmental stewardship in which guests can experience, learn, and preserve.
